Compassionate use

Expanded Access.

A way to access experimental treatments before they are officially approved - for patients who have no other options.

What it is

Expanded access allows patients with serious or life-threatening conditions to receive investigational drugs or devices that have not yet been approved by the FDA.

Who qualifies

You must have a serious or life-threatening disease, no comparable alternative treatment, and be unable to enroll in a clinical trial - or have a condition that does not improve enough in a trial.

How to access

Your physician must submit a request to the drug manufacturer and receive FDA authorization. The manufacturer must agree to supply the drug. Search for programs below.

Important: Your doctor must initiate any expanded access request. Contact the program directly with your physician to ask about eligibility and how to apply. These programs are separate from clinical trials and have their own requirements.

Search by disease name.

Type the name of your disease above to find expanded access programs that may be available.
